My Brother Bill

My Brother Bill

53" x 47"

My brother Bill Sterett, Jr. was killed on June 26, 2004 while test driving a 7 litre hydroplane on the Ohio river in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was only 57 years old and in the prime of his life. I made this quilt just weeks after his death as a rememberance of him. He owned a crane and a construction business as well as a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a twin engine Barron airplane and a large boat in Florida. If you look closely you will see them all in this quilted wallhanging. His face and his hydroplane "Miss Crazy Thing" are entirely thread painted. The crane and text are appliqued onto the hand dyed background. This was my way of feeling close to him even after his sudden death. I have this wallhanging displayed on my office wall.
