One Last Ride

One Last Ride

52" x 52"

In the fall of 2004 I wanted to make another quilted wallhanging of my late brother Bill, showing him running his boat down the river. Bill, like my Dad and other brother Terry, all retired from boat racing while they were young. It was always my brother's dream to build a replica of Dad's boat, the "Miss Crazy Thing" and race it in the Vintage races throughout the United States. The first boat he built, he donated it to the SpeedZeum in Owensboro, Kentucky. After building the boat and donating it, he decided to build one for himself to race.  He was killed on June 26, 2004 after test driving another friends boat. This quilt was made from the inspiration of his former boat racing days. He was always happy when he was driving the boat, so knowing that this was his "last ride" I can only assume that he drove right on past us and drove right up into heaven.

We all make quilts for different occasions and for different reasons. This was my way of grieving his loss.
